FIVE YEARS OF ALTANO CONSULTORES

Date: April 11st 2026

Dear friends,

Five years ago, we created Altano with the purpose of improving the way legal services are delivered in Colombia. At the time, we believed that, despite the thousands of lawyers practicing in the country, people were generally deeply dissatisfied with the legal services they received, as they often did not find solutions that felt close to their actual problems and needs. This was true then and, to a large extent, remains true today, which has contributed to an excessive level of distrust toward those of us who practice this profession.

Awareness of this problem led us to undertake this project. We had many ideas and wanted to implement them all at once. At first, we envisioned Altano as a business consulting firm, seeking to address multiple market needs. Later, we focused exclusively on legal services, but we still aimed to cover a wide range of matters, which caused us to lose focus. We then began concentrating on real estate matters and property tax issues. Much of our first years was spent discussing how to deliver better services, and each adjustment taught us something that has made us better today.

Beyond the specific areas of practice or the focus of our firm, one thing has always defined us: we have had a clear objective — to understand what users of legal services truly need — and a firm commitment to working toward delivering those services properly.

In pursuing that objective, the lessons learned over these five years have been extremely valuable. We have come to understand that individuals and organizations have very different interests and concerns; that people will generally prefer a negotiated solution over litigation; that most disputes arise from poor communication and contracts with significant gaps; that distrust in the courts is immense; and that major problems often have simple solutions, even when reaching them is not an easy task.

Five years later, with our purpose intact, we have decided to focus our efforts on an area that we are passionate about and that users of legal services truly need: the structuring and execution of infrastructure and construction projects, particularly in the social infrastructure sector.

Based on Altano’s experience, as well as the accumulated experience of those who have joined our team over the years, we have found that this is the field in which we can best contribute our knowledge. We have worked on the structuring of multiple real estate projects, advised public telecommunications service providers and government contractors in both bidding processes and contract execution, and we currently advise the structuring party responsible for the designs of two major public hospital projects in Bogotá.

All of this has allowed us to understand the needs of construction and infrastructure companies seeking to participate in the planning and development of projects of this nature. It also confirms our ability to serve as qualified legal advisors in supporting them throughout that process.
At Altano, we know that social infrastructure is an important driver of the country’s development and the well-being of its people. Building adequate infrastructure for the provision of health or education services not only stimulates the national economy, but also addresses the need to create conditions that allow Colombians to fully develop their abilities and pursue their life projects. This is the importance of our new focus, and this is the reason behind our commitment to becoming the leading firm for the structuring of these types of projects in Colombia.

We are grateful to all those who have believed in Altano throughout these years. As we begin this new cycle, we hope to continue counting on your support and trust. We start this new stage with the same service promise and the same conviction we have always held: to offer solid, simple, and practical legal solutions, closely aligned with the reality of each project, while contributing to the growth of the country and its entrepreneurs.
